How to choose the right size for your touchscreen

Many of my clients are not specified the size when choosing the right touchscreen. 

Therefore, we talk with our clients deeply regarding their business and application, trying to find the right size for their project. And eventually, offer them advice or help them decide with the right touchscreen.

As per our 15 years of experience with touchscreen, here is what we should consider before confirming the size : 

Field of application

Consider the tasks you will be performing on the touchscreen monitor.In most scenarios, the client in an entertainment industry business owner will use a bigger screen like 27, 32 or 43 inch or even 50, and 55 inch, on the contrary, heavy industry engineers mainly be satisfied with the smaller size of the screen like 10inch or 21.5inch touch screen max. As for self-service in retails, 15~27 inch should be suffient.

However, there are always exceptions, One of our clients in the machinery industry chooses 27 inch and 32 inch touch screen because they need to have a large space for cutting adjustment and operation of many line processes.

In a word, the field can help and limit you like stereotypes, it helps your decision not 100%, but 90% when selecting the right size. 

 Software & Content Display

The screen needs to be large enough to display the interactive content( page turning is unpleasant) ,  delivery software’s user interface properly and freely,  without sacrifice the clarity of media and content reading , however it shouldn’t be so big that it has become to some sort of arms operation from fingertips movement. 

The number of users and audiences, and the reading distance.

Now 10 points touch is the basis of almost every touchscreen, for 1 user operation. But we support 40 points- 4 people in big screen like 50inch too. 

This is to tell the users that the big screen is for more than one user and a group of audience: for instance: presentation, lecture, and touch table in the VIP room.

We recommend the appropriate size of the touchscreen in terms of no. of the user, audience and touchpoints, and Distance of reading, as below table:

Size of the kiosk and your space to use

Touchscreen size should match the size of its kiosk or your place to use it too, in the way of physics and nature, and the sense of beauty and harmony.

 For instance, many smart locker clients would think of small touchscreens before coming to our engineers because of the limit operation and no audience but only one user, thinking the kiosk of the locker is as large as a wall of 10m2, we often suggest them consider 32 inch at least in terms of the beauty of the whole kiosk.

To attract more attention 

  A lot of my clients hope their touchscreen to play some role as interactive digital signage for commercials, to catch the eyes of more visitors, that is why size matters and they demand for big sizes that ever, so their customers can see even from a far distance.,

Therefore.43 inch is the least to consider for their most benefit, even 50~65inch is the best solution to have more attention day or night at a big distance. The below chart is how far away you can find a screen in ration to the size.

Always the popular one

This matters, because of the popularity and support, service, replacement, and market of components or LCD most of the time.

As a salesman, I suggest my clients avoid unusual sizes such as 23.6, old-fashion such as 18.5, or special designed 32: 9 ultra-widescreen, 

The irregular size put a higher risk of long lead time and support or no support and high cost of repair and components.

The fashion and trend

Thinking of the future when you select the touchscreen, not the present.

If you were using a 15inch touch screen, and are in temps of getting a new touchscreen for your new kiosk, then you should think of 19inch.

If you are satisfied with your old 21.5inch touch monitor, and in your next or new project touchscreen, you should think of getting 24inch or 27inch.

The golden rule is, don’t get enough with what you have or what you are . The fact is we are living in a world of screens, only the bigger screen can carry a large volume of business and more attention, more popular with users and audiences. Just like the size of cell phones, tablets and TVs, they are getting bigger with time.
